This sample uses the dialup internet service at ErieNet which is a Christian Email Service that we highly recommend. Their website is located at http://ErieNet.Net .

Step 1: Set up the Connection Icon

Press the Start (START) button, select Settings... , Dial-Up Networking.

Double-click the Make New Connection icon. This will walk you through the Make New Connection wizard.

Type in "Erienet " in the box marked Type a name for the computer you are dialing .

Your modem (which should have been configured when you installed Windows) should be shown in the Select a modem: area.

Click the Next > button in the Make New Connection wizard.
Enter your area code here

Enter your preferred access number here for the Telephone number if you do NOT have Call Waiting on your phone line.

Please note: If you have call waiting on your phone line, add either 70#, or *70, before our modem.
You may need to refer to your telephone book to find the proper code as each telephone company is different.

Click Next and then the Finish button and your icon will be created.

Step 2: Setting the Dial-Up Properties

Select your newly-created Erienet connection icon, press the RIGHT mouse button and choose Properties... You should get a dialog box.

Uncheck the box marked "Use area code and Dialing Properties "
Hit the OK button, and you're almost ready to dial!

Do not close the Dial-Up Networking folder.

Step 3: Create an Erienet shortcut on your desktop

Select your newly-created Erienet connection icon, press the RIGHT mouse button and choose Create Shortcut... You should get a warning box, just click Yes , this will create a shortcut to Erienet on your Desktop.

Close the Dial-Up Networking folder.

Step 4: Dialing in and Getting Connected

Double-click your session icon that you recently made. You'll get the Connect To dialog.

Put your username@erienet.net and password in the appropriate text areas.
(NOTE: your username must be entered in lower case (small) letters and NO spaces)

Example: howard@erienet.net

Check the box for "Save Password ".

Press the Connect button and your modem should start dialing. After a few rings, Erienet's modem should answer and connect you.
